Do we need an EHCP? If we do, what do we do now?

There's a lot of anxiety and a lot of misinformation about the EHCP process and it's in the midst of a really challenging context right now.

This course is to help parents make sense of the process and also know more about what you can do to influence it.

Lots of parents tell me that they feel confused and they're uncertain about what to do when they're trying to get extra support for their child in school.

Recently I met someone who was struggling to understand what was going wrong for her daughter in school and school staff thought her child was fine in school and they didn't really see the problem. But at home she was really distressed and saying she hated school and she didn't want to go. At the same time, she thought it was really important to go. She was desperate to go in to be with her friends and to do her exams, and her mum just didn't really know what to do. School had already said she had all the support that she needed and she wouldn't get an education, health and care plan. Her mum found it really hard to decide how to proceed and where to go.

You might recognise some elements of her experience.

This course covers 4 main areas:
